SPACEJUNK (2023)

The term space debris, also known as space junk or orbital debris, refers to non-operable objects in orbit around Earth as a result of human intervention in space. Orbital debris differ in size and can range from small fragments of individual components to entire spent rocket stages. Any material that is discarded from a man-made object in space or sent into an individual orbit resulting from a collision can be categorically found under spacejunk.
Titanium struts. Carbon-fiber panels. Lithium-ion batteries and chemical thrusters. Space junk is the nearest resource from Earth, allowing for new fabrication and less reliance on transport. This model was made entirely from found objects, including a Wi-Fi router, old brake pads, and a circuit board to mimic the use of orbital debris in new construction. Assembling pieces from different aesthetic languages created a new formal language with pockets of detailed ruin.
